The casting rumors are heating up in the world of Kevin Smith's Red State.
Right after Comic Con it was confirmed that Michael Parks was signed up for a role in the movie. And now the word on the street and the internet is that a whole list of actors are coming on board.
The list includes Kyle Gallner, Michael Angarano, Dermot Mulroney, Steven Root and Melissa Leo.
Looking at the list it certainly seems that K.Smith is sticking to his plan of using lesser known actors to make the movie. There doesn't look to be anyone that will sell posters when the time comes, but I don't think that's his main concern at this point.
With filming scheduled to begin on September 22, 2010 we should soon be getting more official confirmations on casting and other Red State rumors whether it be in releases or more likely through the @ThatKevinSmith Twitter feed.
Stay tuned for more information as it comes down the pipe. I'll be looking for it so that I can share it with all of you.

Watch Red State - Casting News!
Finally, after waiting and waiting and waiting, we have the first casting announcement for Red State.
K.Smith has said that the goal is to cast actors that you may recognize on the screen but not on the marquee. He's hit that nail right on the head with Michael Parks. Take a look at the picture and see what you can place him in. And if you need some help check out his IMDB.com link here.
I'm anxious to see who gets announced next. There should be some confirmations coming down the pipe as the flick is set to start filming in August sometime.
Stay tuned for all of the information as soon as we can get it!
Here's what popped up on K.Smiths's Twitter feed on July 25th: Via @meganphelps "So now we know who's playing Gramps in Red State: Michael Parks!" Hey - it's not a bio-pic, Slappy.

Red State - UPDATE!
That's right... we have an update.
It's not a big one, but folks, when it comes to Kevin Smith, him saying anything that has to do with actually making a film should be heralded.
So, what's the news?
Well, K.Smith says that the movie is ready to start shooting in August, which we were pretty sure of already. He also says that the two leads in the movie are filled by actors. He's not yet saying who the actors are, but he did say that he specifically cast actors who aren't the biggest stars as part of the films aesthetic.
So, I guess we sit tight and wait for more info regarding Red State. But August is just around the corner and it should start rolling in then.
Stay tuned.

Red State - Casting News!
Ladies and Gentlemen, Kevin Smith has taken to Twitter once again with Red State news. Well, not movie news yet, but an offer of Red State news.
K.Smith is on his live SModcast tour and is stopping tonight in Madison, Wisconsin for a 7 and 10pm shows. However, there are still seats left for the 10pm show and he'd like to see more of them filled.
In order to entice the fans to come and see him he has put this offer on the table: "If 10pm show gets another 50 sales in the next 2 hrs, I'll dish some RED STATE tonight. Like casting. http://tinyurl.com/Madison10pm" via @ThatKevinSmith
So, here's hoping, big time, that those 50 sales get made and we can find some of that divulged information tomorrow morning. I'm dying to find out who will be cast in Red State.
Come back tomorrow to find out what K.Smith told the audience in Madison!

Red State - Update - Thanks Twitter!
Ladies and Gentlemen, Kevin Smith has done it again.
With the help of Twitter, K.Smith has told us that he and cinematographer David Klein will be using Red Cameras for the filming of Red State.
This might not seem like much, but it's the move to digital filming for K.Smith and it will mean a new look for the new flick.
This may not be the big news I was hoping to break on a Monday morning, but I'll be back when there's more.

Red State Update - What I Know -
Alright kids, here’s what I know with regards to Red State.
Shooting is scheduled to start August 10th. Previous reports had things starting in July but with K.Smith’s schedule it looks like August is a more likely target.
Mr. View Askew has also confirmed that the lead bad guy has been locked up for the flick, although he won’t give us a name. There are also at least 2 other actors that have been sent scripts and offers to be in the thriller.
I also found a quote from K.Smith about the flick and where his inspiration came from when he was writing Red State.
"It's very reminiscent of Race with the Devil," Smith tells FSR. "That's such a favorite movie of mine. When I was a kid, it was just such a terrifying notion. It's where you're on vacation and you just happen to see some motherf****rs sacrificing a virgin, they kill your dog, and then chase you in your Winnebago. There’s nothing more horrifying than that! You can keep your f**king thirty-foot shark, that’s terrifying! It’s certainly not that, but it’s very much in that spirit of people in the wrong place at the wrong time. Instead of going with devil worship, we’re going the other direction. It deals with intense religious worship. It’s religious fundamentalism."
So there you have it. That’s what we know.
And when I know more, you’ll know more.

Red State Ready To Go!
Kevin Smith fans have been waiting 4 years for Red State to come together, and now the wait is closer to being over.
Red State will begin production sometime this summer and Smith has announced via his Twitter stream that he has started contacting actors and locations regarding the flick.
Without a lot of information coming out as of yet we are essentially going on what Kevin Smith tweets. And he tweets a lot.
"definitely a 180 from everything else we've done including 'Zack and Miri' but at the same time, it's not like a splatter film, it's not like slasher balls-to-the-wall gore, it's more unsettling and disturbing type of horror."
Smith has never made a horror flick before, but with a loyal fan base and cult like DVD following there is little doubt that he will be able to turn a profit on the reported $20 million budget.
Here’s another blurb Smith gave out regarding the premise of the flick.
"The movie’s called ‘Red State’ and it’s very much about that subject matter, that point of view and that position taken to the absolute extreme. It’s certainly not (Fred) Phelps himself but it’s very much inspired by a Phelps figure,” revealed Smith. “And to me, too, the notion of using a Phelps-like character as a villain, as horrifying and scary as that guy can be, there’s even something more insidious than him that lurks out there in as much as a public or a government that allows it and that’s the other thing that I’m trying to examine in a big, big way. It’s weird because for a few months I’ve been saying ‘horror movie’ and technically it is, but it’s also not a very traditional horror movie in the sense that people have been asking me, ‘Is it a slasher movie? Is it like the Japanese horror flicks?’ It’d be much easier to just show it to them when I’m done and be like, ‘This is what I meant.’ At which point I’m sure there’ll be people saying, ‘This ain’t a horror movie!’ But to me, it is."
There you have it fans. Keep your eyes peeled for more info as we get it.
